Alice could then write to the ledger, “pay 1 BTC to Bob”, which would update the balance to 4 BTC for Alice and 6 BTC for Bob. Bob could then send 2 BTC back to Alice later, updating the balances to 6 BTC for Alice and 4 BTC for Bob. This process can continue for many transactions without the need to record each one on the main blockchain.
