The trend of celebrities getting involved in the crypto scene continues to grow. The latest celeb to join the bitcoin ranks is rapper and businessman Jay-Z, who is also the husband of famed “Destiny’s Child” singer Beyonce. He and Jack Dorsey – the man formerly in charge of Twitter – are teaming up to create what’s being called the Bitcoin Academy, which will offer education surrounding crypto and blockchain technology.
Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey Build an Educational BTC Academy
The Academy will be centered in the Marcy Houses of Brooklyn, New York, where Jay-Z apparently grew up. Gloria Carter – the mother of Jay-Z and the president of the Shawn Carter Foundation – explained in an interview:
The Shawn Carter Foundation has always been about providing educational access and opening doors of opportunity to underserved communities. No one should be left out or behind. We truly appreciate the partnership with Block and Jack Dorsey to bring financial, specifically bitcoin education to the Marcy residents, where I spent many years raising my family. Everyone should be empowered to make informed financial decisions to take care of themselves and their families.
Dorsey also made the announcement of the Bitcoin Academy on his personal Twitter page, explaining to his followers:
Bitcoin is becoming a critical tool for many in Africa and Central and South America. We believe the same potential exists within communities in the U.S. Our goal is to prove that making powerful tools more available to people enables them to build greater independence.
The organization will be formed in collaboration with Black Bitcoin Billionaires and Crypto Blockchain Plug. The Bitcoin Academy will provide free courses on crypto, as well as all things related to bitcoin. The courses are slated to show students how crypto works, what it is, and how it can be helpful to the planet in the future. There will also be discussions about how people can get involved in the growing space.
In a separate string of tweets, Dorsey said:
Education is where we start. This isn’t just about bitcoin… It’s about long-term thinking, local economies, and self-confidence. Courses are free to all Marcy residents, including kids, and to make it even easier, we’re providing devices and data plans for all who need it.
Helping All Who Need It
The academy is slated to be available soon, as development is set for the summer of 2022 (in many ways, we’re already there). All Brooklyn residents of the Marcy Houses will gain access to the courses offered by the Academy at no charge, and courses will be both virtual and in-person. They’ll be offered two times a week for up to 12 weeks.
Men like Jack Dorsey have long been BTC advocates, with the former Twitter executive pushing bitcoin to the hilt with his payments company Block (formerly Square).
