Web browser Opera has partnered with blockchain advisory firm Ledger Capital to further support its blockchain initiative.
Developed by Norwegian company Opera Software AS, Opera is a web browser for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. In July of this year, it became the first major web browser to add a built-in crypto wallet, which allows users to make online payments with cryptocurrency where merchants support exists.
Founded in January of this year, Ledger Capital provides deep expertise, research, and insights for teams and organizations to help them succeed in their blockchain initiatives from comprehensive angles, including positioning, technology, marketing, secondary markets, and operations.
Under the agreement, the companies intend to explore further applications and use-cases of the blockchain technology as well as growth opportunities that could be applied to Opera products.
“We are excited to work with an innovator and industry leader like Opera,” said Ding’an Fei, Managing Partner at Ledger Capital. “Opera has already taken the lead among the major browsers, with the integration of the innovative crypto wallet and investments from other leading crypto companies like Bitmain. We are looking forward to exploring the next steps in how Opera will leverage its massive ecosystem and technical competencies to create exponential value for its user base and the greater blockchain space.”
Opera said that “the past 18 months have brought tremendous activity around cryptocurrencies” and the company aims to facilitate the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies.
“Having a crypto wallet in the browser brings the cash experience to the world of online payments,” said Charles Hamel, Product Lead of Opera’s crypto wallet. “Paying with the crypto wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone, and we’ve just made it easier. This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike.”
